R.W. & Sons Builders has been a family owned business since 1984, beginning as Strayt A, a farm builder. They are located in Balcarres, with a population of roughly 700 residents, in the prairie and boreal Saskatchewan province of Canada. The company was founded by Robert Warnez, and his sons Michael, Joseph, and Gregory. The expanding business outgrew its cobbled together computing solutions Since its humble beginnings nearly 30 years ago, the business has branched out into the retail sale of hardware, lumber, and building materials, as well as installed sales and home renovations, livestock feed, and bulk oil. They are a member of the Castle ® Building Centres Group and have benefitted from group pricing. However, they started as the third Castle dealer in Saskatchewan back in 1998 or 1999, and now the number of dealers has increased. With more competitors at their price points, the company needed to streamline its business in many ways to remain competitive. R.W. & Sons had been using an antiquated point-of-sale system called Retail Controller from Mainframe Associates. The system didn't run on the Microsoft ® Windows ® operating system, and the general ledger was being split off, which meant that the company would have to use some other bookkeeping software. The old system also didn't handle accounts payable. When they received shipments, they weren't registered in the general ledger inventory until the bill was actually made. Accountability, ease of use, and efficiency must be the hallmarks of the new solution "Software is hard enough without a lack of accountability," Gregory Warnez says. "I want the same company from start to finish, so if something is wrong, I know who to turn to."
